Follow-up X-ray After Pneumonia Shows Opacity Projecting Over The Middle Lobe, No Effusion. Cancer Chances?
I had pnemonia in November. A follow up chest xray shows Opacity projecting over the right middle lobe noted on both the PA and lateral views is unchanged from prior exam. The left lung is clear. (the pneumonia was in the left lung) Pulmonary vasculature is stable. There is no obvious effusion . What does this mean? Do I have lung cancer?
Hi mjsurdell
Middle lobe shadows can be collapse, consolidation, fissural effusion or mass lesion...all these usually project better in lateral view.I wish you must have talked about your present symptoms.
Next investigation is CT scan of thorax which will outline the lesion clearly and will tell about the lesion...also it will tell about associated lymphadenopathy.
Lung cancer usually comes in elderly smokers with symptoms of dry cough occasionally blood tinged, weight loss, breathlessness, hoarseness of voice etc
meet your doctor.....
best wishes and thanx for coming to HCM
