Food Stuck In The Throat. Injured Esophagus. Pain Radiating To The Chest While Swallowing. Is It Normal?
I recently went to the ER because when eating a taco chip became lodged in my throat and then when getting it to go down, I injured my esophagus. That was 2 1/2 days ago. They did the chest x-ray and said that I did not tear my esophagus. I am still having a great deal of pain when swallowing and this pain radiates from my throat to my chest and even feel it in my arm. Is this normal?
Hi, The taco chip is likely to have damaged the lining of the esophagus which will have become inflammed. This will be the cause of the pain on swallowing and may last a few more days. It is unlikely to have caused serious damage. I would suggest you eat soft foods for the next few days if there is still pain and drink plenty of fluids. Signs of serious damage would be extreme continuous pain and signs of infection such as fever and dizziness. Regards.
