For About A Year Now I Have Had Random Searing

For about a year now I have had random searing pain that sometimes continues to ache after lifting my left arm, especially with any weight on the left side of my back, near the base of my neck. I know I'm having some problems with a disk in my neck, but that pain will go way with traction. This pain does not. Is it still likely connected to nerve problems in my neck, or is there something around my should, shoulder blade that could be damaged?
