For What Ailment Is Protopic Tacrolimus Ointment Prescribed?
When I was a few years younger than I am today, which was maybe when I was 11 or 12, my doctor prescribed me with Protopic tacrolimus ointment I believe for discoloration of my vaginal and anal areas. I would like to know what this ointment is meant exactly for and what it actually does. Does it treat discoloration? Does it treat bumps as well?
Protopic Tacrolimus ointment is a topical macrolide immunosuppressant which works by decreasing cell activity in the body's immune system that helps to slow down the growth of atopic dermatitis or eczema on skin. Calcineurin inhibitor ointments like Tacrolimus ointment has been shown to be effective as monotherapy and in combination with other agents in achieving vitiligo repigmentation.
It should be considered a well tolerated, fairly safe treatment for people with small areas of depigmentation. So, it can be used to help restore skin pigment in adults and children with discoloration. It doesn't cause thinning of the skin like steroids.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
