Forehead Injury, Nerve Pain, Numbness. Done CAT Scan. What Is Going On?

yes, my sister age 59 fell while jogging and hit her RIGHT SIDE OF forehead/face on the pavement, 2 days ago, she went to the ER HAD A CAT SCAN AND THE DR. SAID LOOKED NORMAN, OTHER THAN SHE PROBABLY HAS A SINUS INFECTION. SHE TOLD HIM THAT HER FOREHEAD AND TOP OF HER HEAD FEELS NUMB, FROM WHERE SHE HIT HER FOREHEAD UP TO THE TOP OF HER HEAD, HE TOLD HER THAT SHE HIT A NERVE WHICH IS CAUSING THE NUMBNESS. MY QUESTION IS HOW LONG SHOULD SHE FEEL THE NUMBNESS?

greetings friend, I will reassure you that with a normal CAT scan that your sister is probably going to be fine minimal numbness or at most a few days. This is part of potentially a postconcussive syndrome or concussion, which will resolve on its own. Just be careful to make sure your sister does not have any decreased alertness or confusion in the hours ahead which could suggest a delayed bruise on the brain or subdural hematoma which is rare but needs immediate medical attention. I would not be concerned at all about the numbness. It is just because the inflammation locally where she hit her head is compressing a nerve, which will resolve on its own soon. Have a good rest of your day.
