Fostering A Baby, Mother On Methadone Program Who Smokes Occasionally. What Can I Expect At Birth?
Hi I am going to foster a baby who s mother is on the methadone program and also smokes the occasional joint , just wondering what to expect at the birth and first few weeks. I have the baby boys sister in my care now and she is 2 and a half a little language delayed but doing well. She was a heroine baby and spent 12 weeks after birth coming down. She has been in our care 18 months.
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The baby born from a mother on methadone program may show a withdrawal symptoms for the first few days characterized by excessive crying and restlessness. But these can be taken care of by his pediatrician with timely medications.
