Hi,I am Dr. Shivaprasad C (Endocrinologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my genotype is AC can i marry a lady with AS genotype without any danger in the future for our children? can we test for the genotype of the baby in a pregnant woman?
The genotype of a normal person is AA. Supposing you marry this lady then 4 possibilities of your child's genotype will be AA, AS, AC, SC. In the first case your child will be absolutely normal. if she/he is AS or AC she/he will be a carrier of an abnormal gene but will lead a healthy life. The problem is in the 4th possibility of SC genotype. This combination leads to a disease condition associated with many problems. So statistically speaking you will have a75% chance of having a healthy child.
There are technique available these days which can tell you the genotype of the fetus during pregnancy. If the fetus is detected to have an abnormal genotype the parents an take the decision to terminate the pregnancy.
Hope that answers your query. Wishing you good luck.
