hi,
thank you for your query.
PCOS is a multi symptom complex that has
anovulation, resulting in
irregular menstruation,
amenorrhea, ovulation-related
infertility, and polycystic ovaries; excessive amounts or effects of androgenic (masculinizing) hormones, resulting in acne and hirsutism; and
insulin resistance, often associated with obesity.
since there is anovulation and as a result hormonal imbalance ,our first aim is to correct it.
treatment is bi-pronged approach of using medication and bringing lifestyle changes.it includes-
-Regular exercise, healthy foods, and weight control are key treatments for PCOS. Eat a heart-healthy diet. In general, this diet has lots of vegetables, fruits, nuts, beans, and whole grains
-Most women who have PCOS can benefit from losing weight. Even losing 4.5 kg may help get your hormones in balance and regulate your menstrual cycle.
-Medicines to balance hormones may also be used but it is a long-term approach.medications include-
*OCP to regularize the hormonal level.you can stop these when you are trying to conceive.
* metformin. It can help restore regular menstrual cycles and fertility.
*another drug called
clomiphene citrate can be used for ovulation and promoting fertility.
*letrozole-this drug transiently slows estrogen production and causes the body to make more
follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), a hormone needed for ovulation
LOD or laproscopic ovarian drilling is done only in cases where all of the above fail.
thank you,
wishing you good health
