Getting Laser Laryngoscopy Done Every Year. This Time Prescribed Chest X-ray. Required?
I just saw my ENT to book a laser laryngoscopy for vocal cord polyps, I noticed a red pimple-like bump below the polyp and after mentioning it to my dr. He said I need a chest X-ray before surgery and that he will look into my throat and lungs during the surgery. I ve been doing this surgery every year for 17 years and NEVER had to do a chest X-ray before. Is this red pimple thing something to worry about?
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The red pimple below the vocal cord polyp can be due to a chronic infection. If the area is raw and bleeding then malignancy can be suspected. It is best to get a chest X-ray done before the surgery and follow your doctor's instructions.
