Getting Palpitation After Taking Venelafaxine For A Long Time. Diagnosed With ADHD. What Can Be Done Now?
Hi, I was on Venelafaxine for over ten years but now 54 I get palpitation if I take it. I have been diagnosed with ADHD/ADD now but Atomoxetine too gives me heart palpitation as well. Why have I developed this and could it have been caused by years of Venelafaxine? And what can I do to counter act it? I thought Hydrocortisone could help but it seems a drastic measure to deal with a side effect of another drug. I need to take something for my ADHD/ADD but all the stimulants can cause palpitation.
I understand your concerns. I believe that the palpitations from venlafaxine is due to your being treated with Atomoxetine. The medication used for ADD/ADHD is also acting on some of the same metabolic pathways that the venlafaxine is and there is a risk of heart arrhythmias with the two medications combined. The concomitant administration of atomoxetine with drugs that affect norepinephrine (e.g., norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors) may theoretically result in additive or synergistic pharmacologic effects. The clinical significance is unknown. Caution is advisable if these drugs are used together. I hope you consult your psychiatrist for a different class of medication for the ADHD/ADD. I hope this helps.
Take care and have a lovely day!
