Hi,

Well, I am glad to know that being in 9th grade you have been studying about the important drugs. These are the first line drugs for the treatment of tuberculosis. They work by killing mycobacterium tuberculosis the bacteria responsible for tuberculosis. They are usually given in two phases.

An initial phase of 2 or 3 months followed by continuation phase of 4 or 6 months depending upon the severity of the disease. Their common side effects include peripheral neuritis, liver dysfunction, optic neuritis, hearing impairment or kidney dysfunction.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
