Got Sucker Punched. Bottom Molars Hurting, Numbness In Chin, Lips. Solution?

I got sucker punched about a week ago on the left side of my jaw and it didn t swell up or anything but my bottom molars on that side and cheek none ache on and off and when they ache there is a slight numb feeling on the left side of my chin and lips , it kinda hurts to chew but not really and when I move my jaw around I can hear/feel a grainy feeling in one of my left bottom molars. What is wrong and when should it heal? Should I see a doctor?

hi and welcome,

Physical Trauma to the jaws and teeth may lead to inflammation of the tissues causing pain and discomfort.

I would suggest you to get an OPG radiograph done .

This examination will confirm the damage of tissue if any , condition of jaws and teeth , presence of hematoma or blood clot may be caused by impact injury.

Accordingly treatment can be carried out by a dentist.

I suspect , Molar teeth may have developed irreversible pulpitis due to impact which needs a root canal treatment for permanent pain relief.

pain in jaws and muscular aches can be cured by analgesics like TRAMADOL. twice daily along with anti inflammatory drugs.

i hope this helps,

take care.

There is a possibility of trauma to the left lower molars due to the punch. The kind of numbness you mentioned could be due to the inferior alveolar nerve getting involved, which runs below these molars. The trauma being mild as you dont have severe pain, could have caused superficial chipping of the tooth enamel and can be easily fixed. The situation is not needed to worry about but i would definitely recommend you see a dentist asap.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
As you have history of punch, there might be some involvement of nerve because of which there is a slight numb feeling on the left side of my chin and lips
You need to visit dentist as soon as possible and plan your treatment according to it.

because of punchmay be your molar tooth is fractured.sometimes it is not visible because root of the tooth is affected inside the bone.and may be nerve is affected along root of the tooth which causes pain and numbness. you visit your dentist and go for xray so that currect diagnosis will be made.rct may be requied.you have mild pain so may be no treatment required if only soft tissues are affected.it will be subside after some time.

Dear friend

thanks for sharing your concern.

sometimes physical trauma to jaw bones and teeth leads to inflammation of the jaw resulting in pain and numbness.

presently for your pain and discomfort you can take anti inflammatory.

tab combiflam 500 mg twice daily for three days then discontinue the drug and observe for the symptoms.
if it persists, then certainly visit a dentist and get xrays done. else it would be fine.

hope this helps.

thanks
