Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My neighbor complains of green oily loose stool and sometimes wears a "diaper" because it leaks. She is almost eighty and in excellent health. She has had this for some time and has a dr. appt. in a couple of months. She has no pain or fever or other symptoms. Don't want to scare her but am worried that she should see her dr. sooner. She does say that she has noticed it more when she eats meat so maybe this is digestive/pancreas problem?
Hi, Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic. Green, oily stool may be indicative of malabsorption which may be because of digestive enzyme deficiency like pancreatic insufficiency in this age group. But other causes like infections with bacteria, virus, protozoal organisms has to be ruled out by stool investigations like routine, microscopy, and stool culture and sensitivity. Ask her to take oral probiotics in prescribed dose. Hydration to be maintained by taking oral rehydration solutions. Consult the doctor for further review of her problems and management. Hope I have answered your query. Regards.
