Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
HI, I have a 16 yr old son who was very healthy about 4 months ago. In early September he had a bug bite (no bulls eye rash, just redness around site) but have no idea what kind of bug- it itched. Fast forward 4 weeks (early October)or so and out of nowhere he developed a headache originating from the neck with shooting pains going up his head. He was first treated for Typhus (Doxycycline sp?) for about 7 days and headache continued. Had MRI of head and neck- normal. Thought it could be Occiputal neuralgia so he had the nerve block of the nerves- it only made his head numb for about 15 min. and the pain continued. With all this pain he is now on anti depressants and now has Insomnia on top of the pain in the back of his neck that radiates to the top of his head. This has affected every aspect of his daily life and is missing school and had to sit out half of football season. FYI- I am in South Texas and not considered an endemic area for Lymes disease although there have been multiple people who have contracted Lymes Disease here from surrounding ranches. He has also seen a Neurologist and he said it was a Rebound Headache and all systems were normal.
