HI My Mother-in-law Has Taken Tramadol Daily For Years For

HI

My mother-in-law has taken Tramadol daily for years for chronic headache pain.
On a recent visit to hospital for other issues, (large staphylococcal infection in lower spine),the drs took her completely off Tramadol cold turkey.
- Can this cause hallucinations as part of withdrawal symptoms? (She had a lot of hallucinations the first day she was admitted)
She is 79 and has been suffering some-short and long-term memory loss for the past 3-4 years.
- Could this be the result of her long-term use of Tramadol? (The doctors never told us this, but it is written very discretely in a Geriatric report the family has just been given.)
In hospital in the early weeks of her 7 week stay for the staph infection, they were giving her hourly morphine for the pain, which didn't seem to do anything to alleviate the pain.
- Is this because her body was 'accustomed' to strong pain relief via Tramadol, so the morphine didn't work so well?

Thank you
Jackie Simmons
