Had C-Diff Previously. Was Prescribed Zocor Then. Have Changed Many Statin Drugs And Now Been Prescribed Simavastatin. Opinion?

I had c-diff for 11 months some 20 years ago. At that time I was on the antibiotic ceftin and Zocor. It took a long time to be correctly diagnosed. Since then I have taken many statin drugs and reacted to most with muscles aches & pains.Finished up a year on Lovalo every other day and had to quit. Now Dr. wants me to try simavastatin (generic for Zocor right/) I have had no oral antibiotics these past years,only intraveneous during 2 surgeries for my Meniere's disease. Am 76 yr. old lady with 245 cholesterol-weight 135. What do you think?

HI WELCOME TO HCM,

SINCE YOUR CHOLESTROL LEVEL IS ON THE HIGHER SIDE ,YOU NEED TO BE ON MEDICATIONS FOR IT.

THE BEST IN CLASS IS THE STATINS.HOWEVER ,ALL GROUPS OF STATINS CAN CAUSE MUSCLE PAIN ,MYOPATHY OR EVEN BREAKDOWN OF MUSCLE TISSUE DAMAGING THE KIDNEYS.

THIS HAPPENS TO A FEW PATIENTS ON THE STATIN GROUP OF DRUGS.

ANOTHER INTERESTING FACT IS THAT JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE A SIDE EFFECT FOR ONE GROUP OF STATIN DOESNT MEAN YOU WILL HAVE IT FOR OTHER STATIN.

EXAMPLE; IF YOU HAVE MUSCLE PAIN WITH ATORVASTATIN , YOU MAY NOT HAVE IT WITH SIMVASTATIN.SO TRY THE DRUG AND IF YOU GET ANY SIDE EFFECT STOP THE DRUG IMMEDIATELY AND CONSULT YOUR GP.
