Had TMJ Issues, Mastoid Protruding, Has Fluid Following Accident. Advised As Tendonitis. What Could It Be?

my daughter was in car accident ( 5 months )and suffered whiplash with resultant significant TMJ problems and occipital pain she has no fever nor had any ear pain but the mastoid process had been tender and now is protruding slightly and feels like it may have some fluid. The TMJ specialist thinks its tendonitis as opposed to mastoiditis. Our GP does not no much about either can you tell me a bit?

Hello and welcome,
Thanks for posting your query.
Since your daughter had met accident 5 months back,Chances of mastoiditis as well as tendonitis has to be ruled out.
I would advice you to visit an oral-maxillofacial surgeon and get a thorough clinical evaluation done.
An OPG as well as LATERAL CEPHALOGRAM will help to rule out the problem underlying.
Take complete course of medications prescribed.
Avoid heavy forces on TMJ and physiotherapic exercises has to be done.
Jaws has to be immobilized.
Take care.
