Had A Jaw Surgery. Plates And Screws Put In. Sore Cheeks, Blood And Pus Discharge. Treatment?
I had jaw surgery in 1996 where both were broken, moved, and plates and screws put in. 12 months ago I received an infection in the upper right area. Four upper rt teeth were removed before removal of upper rt plate and screws. That was 6 months ago and I am still eperiencing a very sore cheek and I'm having blood and pus discharge from that area. What can I do to stop this?
Sore cheek as well as blood and pus discharge from the jaws may be due to development of periodontal infection and thereby formation of abscess in the area from where screws has been removed. The socket has to be cleaned using betadine solution. Gargle frequently using warm saline and povidine iodine solution. Rinse your mouth after every meals. Maintain oral hygiene well. Take complete course of antibiotics too. If required, jaws has to be immobilized. Please do visit your surgeon for further treatment plans. Take care.
