Had A Mole Removed, Painful Leg, Pus Oozed Out, Breast Area Looks Jagged. Applied Antibiotic Ointment. Stitches Under Breast?

My daughter had a mole removed yesterday by her primary physician. She also had a place on her leg removed. The doctor thought the spot on her leg was questionable, as was the mole, which was located under her breast. Her leg is very painful at the moment; however, it is numb around the site only. The place under her breast seems rather large, but no stitches were used. This one is white in color as if it has puss in it, but it isn't oozing. She was told to use vasaline only...no antibiotic ointment. She is concerned about both places. Is the appearance of them normal? Should she ask her doctor to put stitches in the place under her breast, since it looks very open & jagged. It seems this one would take more time to heal with it being in a moist area.

Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
Mole removal is an invasive surgical procedure and any such procedure definitely needs an antibiotic therapy to prevent superceding infection. I would advise cleaning the area with betadine solution followed by application of antibacterial cream. In my clinical practice, I prescribe an oral antibiotic like amoxyclav in such cases. As she is having swelling and pain too, keeping the legs in propped up position and intake of oral analgesic like ibuprofen would help. If the mole removal left a large gaping wound, it should be sutured.
Kindly meet your consulting doctor so that your daughter's lesions could be re examined and treated accordingly.
Hope that helped.
