Had A Sore Blepharitic Eye, Used Systane. Pain Increased, Vessels Dilated. Cure For Symptoms?
Hi doctor,
I am having a bit of a panic attack as I started using systane eye drops for a sore blepharitic eye thinking that they were preservative free but they weren't. I used these intensely for 2-3weeks. These drops made my problem a lot worse - I experienced more pain and the vessels became a lot more dilated in the sclera. I looked up the consequences of using preservative eye drops online and the NHS website said that preservatives can cause damage to the cells lining the surface of the eye. I was wondering that if this is the reason why my eye is still so sore and red a month on as the drops have in fact caused this damage, will the ocular surface ever repair/heal itself?
It appears that you are suffering from ulcerative blephritis and in my opinion systane eye drops have no role to play in this condition. So, you should use some good anti-biotic ointment over the blephritic lids 2-3 times a day and use some anti-biotic drops in the eyes. Also, please take good care of hygiene of the eyes and take good healthy diet.
You can wash the eyes with clean warm water before applying the ointment to the lids. Its a chronic disorder and may take some time to heal.
Regards
