Had Abortion Pill, Had Unprotected Sex, Pregnancy Test Positive. How It Is Possible?

Hi, I had the medication abortion pill on sept. 19th, I had unprotected sex 2 weeks later, before my 3 week check up. I took the morning after pill the day after I had unprotected sex. Came on my menstrual two days after, was still on my period the day of my check up. My ultrasound was normal and clear but my pregnancy test was positive. The doctor cleared me, well two days after my period I took another test and its still positive. Whats going on?

Hi,
It is common for the serum beta-hCG levels to persist for sometime after either an abortion or a delivery. You should test for serial titres to note the declining levels. As you did not wait for the three week period before having intercourse and then took the emergency pill, your hormonal status is bound to be disturbed. Since the sonogram has cleared a residual pregnancy, you need not worry about the completion of the abortion but be aware of the fact that another pregnancy can well happen. Hope this helps.
