Had Back Surgery, Lost Strength, Eating Egg White, Vegan Protein. Will Cause Liver Problems? Having Constipation. Solution?

Hi I am 55 years old and had back surgery 10 weeks ago. After the surgery I could not get my strength back, I felt terrible and I lost about 15 lbs. I started eating more red meat and whey, fermented soy, egg white, and vegan protein. I feel great now but I am a little concerned with some comments that have been said about liver problems with so much protein. Are these concerns valid? I have kept the 15lbs off and am slowly getting back to the gym. I have a protein drink at least once a day. I also eat a lot of raw vegetables, and always put fruit into my protein drinks. I have had on occasion a slight white powder look to my stools. Since the surgery I have had trouble with constipation. I am almost totally off my meds. So, my questions are the one above, can protein cause liver problems? What is the best way to end constipation? I have tried most of the over the counter remedies and Rx remedies. I drink a lot of water.

Hello dear,

For your concerns regarding liver problems, kindly get a Liver profile done.

Though symptomatic relief from constipation can be obtained by intake of Laxatives, their regular use is not advised.
And as long as the underlying cause is not treated, symptoms will keep recurring.

So, kindly consult a Gastroenterologist & get a proper physical examination done.
Investigations like complete blood count, Ultrasound scan of abdomen, Colonoscopy & contrast studies will be helpful to rule out any pathological cause for your symptoms.

There is no need to worry, you will be fine.
Till then, maintain adequate hydration & proper nutrition status.

Wishing you a good health.

greetings,
just read your query.
its amazing how you are picking up.
and really the way you are descibing yourself, and how you are coming back to your life.
i would say the best remedy to your constipation would be to add a lot of fibre in your diet.
try including it.
as far as you are having high protein diet which is quite in range you should ideally not have any probl;emsd if your liver, kidneys are good.
hope this helps.
