Had Chest Infection, Coughing, Fever, Headache And Back Pain. Prescribed Amoxicillin, Doxycycline And Clarithromycin. Suggest?
Hi, I have had a chest infection for three weeks. Coughing up green/yellow phlem. Temp 101. Constant severe headache and recently developed back pain. completely exhausted. I was prescribed a week long course of amoxicillin, after six day I was worse, attended hospital where I was prescribed Doxycycline and Clarithromycin. I finished these meds today and whilst my cough has improved I still have it. I have a really bad headache and backache and still feel exhausted. Can you help?
Hi there, You are suffering from lower respiratory tract infection which did not respond to amox. It would have been better if your doctor would have asked for sputum culture and sensitivity and then changed the antibiotics. Antibiotic resistance has become very common now a days. The exhaustion could be due to the medications and illness you have been having. I suggest you get in touch with your GP, get sputum culture sensitivity done and get correct therapy. Thanks.
