I had the copper coil fitted in about 8 months ago, my period has been normal although a little heavy but my doc syas thats normal. In Jnauary of this year i saw my period twice which was odd because it has never happened before. all through february i didnt see my period at all and i still havent seen it. I took a pregnancy test twice on friday they both came out negative. i just had a set of twins, they ll be one in a few weeks and i dont want another baby. what could be wrong?
Hi,
Copper IUD can cause heavy periods; and irregular periods and spotting are observed in the first 3-6 months after insertion and this will later settle down. Failure rate is very low and so the chances of pregnancy are almost nil, especially in the first year. Yet, you can get a serum beta-hCG test to see if everything is normal, to exclude pregnancy. Please have a regular follow up with your gynecologist as long as you have the IUD. Good luck.
Hi,
Thanks for consulting us.
I have few suggestions for you.
I hope you feel your coil's thread each month after your periods & it is still inside you.
If the coil is still inside you & you are not having periods you must see your doctor even if home pregnancy test is negative.
I recommend you to have a blood pregnancy test & a trans-vaginal sonogram to exclude an ectopic pregnancy, which could be a possibility in your case.
If you have taken some hormonal medicines to decrease your menstrual flow this may be the cause of your delayed period.
Your Gynecologist can guide you for further work up & treatment to regulate your periods.
Wish you good health
