Had Early Period, Experienced Severe Mood Swings, Depression. Menopause Symptoms.

I just turned 50. I normally have regular periods, but just now, have experienced a period 2 weeks after my last one. Over the last 5 years I have experienced severe mood springs, depression and wonder if I have been experiencing perimenopause for some time now and now my menstral cycle is now being affected. Just wondering if this could be the case. I am quite healthy otherwise....

Hi! Thank you for your question and welcome to our site!

Congratulations and belated happy birthday!

Yes, women undergoing perimenopause notice that their regular periods come earlier than usual. Other symptoms like hot flashes, fatigue, insomnia, and mood swings may come before or after their period changes.

I suggest that you see your gynecologist for a routine pap smear, if you haven't already done so, and so that she can guide you through this transition period.

All the best! Take care!
