Had Hysterectomy. Still Recovering. Unable To Eat, Weight Lost. Suggested Sponge Was Not Removed During Surgery. Suggest?
My sister had a hyster in February and she is still not doing well. She has been been sick to her stomach and unable to eat on and off ever since her surgery. She has lost almost 30 pounds, so now she only weighs 102. A friend suggested to me last night that perhaps a sponge wasn't removed after surgery. Any thoughts? She has been back to her gynocologist 3 or 4 times, the emergency room, a gastro 3 times and her PCP 4-5 times. She feels pretty desperate.

The inability to gain weight after more than 6 months of surgery is not likely to be due to a left over sponge., This could have caused a fulminant infection by now. Please do not worry and concentrate on having a healthy diet.
