Had Lumbar Puncture, Blood Patch. Have Pain In Upper Spine, Feels Twisted, Headache, Nausea
9 days ago I had a lumbar puncture to check for infection due to pressure in my head. A week ago tomorrow I had a blood patch to help with an extreme post lumbar headache with pain in head, neck and between shoulder blades as well as throwing up. Now, one week after blood patch my upper spine is in pain and feels twisted with a slight headache back of head. And it's very painful and uncomfortable between shoulder blades again along spine. Hurts to tilt my head back. Is the lumbR headache coming back? I have nausea again and am curious as yo how long it may take for this to go away with and without another blood patch!
Hi thanks for your question. Post Dural puncture headache is a very rare complication of lumber puncture now a day due to use of very fine needles. The last mode of treatment is blood patch which you have already undergone. With blood batch headache due to small leak of CSF secondary to Dural puncture should subside. You are still complaining of same symptoms. Consult your treating physician to rule out any other cause of such symptoms especially meningitis (inflammation of spinal cord and brain covering) chemical or infective secondary to lumber puncture. Hope this answers your question.
