Had Root Canal Treatment On The Front Teeth. Swollen Gum With Pain. Surgery Suggested. Need Remedy From Pain
Hi, Last year i had root canal treatment on my front teeths. After few months my gum from inside got Swollen and also started feeling pain. My dentist asked me to go through the dental surgery . I did so and the Surgeon removed the swollen part from my gums by cutting the front side of the gum. Aftr that I used to feel the hole in my gum. My surgeon advised me that the hole will get fill um in few days. The hole got filled up in feww days but i feel the ineer side of my gum is still quit soft. I also fee little pain some time at the same part. Kindly advise what i need to do get rid of this pain.

According to the history given it suggests you have developed a periapical lesion which was surgically removed by apeciectomy .
After performing apeciectomy it takes about 1 to 2 months for the regrowth of the bone at the apex of the teeth which is primary stage of healing and after 3 months the complete formation occurs .
I would advise you to get an x-ray done of the area treated and rule out for any reinfection.A course of antibiotics and analgesics will help you get rid of the pain and infection if present.
See your dentist to rule out the exact cause for the pain or any delayed healing if present.

Your history suggests your root canal treatment was done successfully with no associated pain in the upper tooth but the problem was with the gums.
i suspect you have undergone gingival surgery to remove the enlargement of the gums.
After surgery ,under normal conditions gingival tissue takes about a month to heal properly closing all the gaps between the teeth.
as u mentioned the inner gums still feel soft with pain , i suspect some kind of infection due to lodgement of food debris or plaque in that area.
visit your dentist and get deep scaling and root planing of the area to remove the irritants which will promote quick healing.
maintain good oral hygiene by using antiseptic mouth rinses.
take care.

when the root canal treatment isn't successful or if the pathology un der the root is quite big as enviseged by your dentist, he/ she would undertake endodontic surgery called as apicoectomy , wherein the apex or the top of the root is chopped off along with removal of the infection whioch causes resorption of the bone.
after removal of the pathology bone usually regrows but at a very slow rate and may take years to completely fill the defect. you may also ask for a bone graft from your dentist or if you don't have any problem leave it as it will gradually heal.

The PAIN after root canal treatment can be due to many reasons-
1.Secondary infection of the tooth.

I would suggest you to visit your dentist and get a thorough clinical and radiological examination to find out the cause.
Treatment can be planned according to that.
IF necessary,re-rct has to be done.

The tooth has to be restored permanently unless the abscess has drained completely.

this procedure take some time for healing but even after one year pain is little bit unusual so i will advise you to visit your dentist for clinical examination.
rest maintain proper oral hygiene & start up with warm saline rinses.

i would like to inform you that pain with swollen gums is something which is following infection, which either may be from a decayed tooth or infected gums.
Until then you can perform warm saline rinses( 3- 4 times.day) to relief pain and swelling,
use an antibacterial mouth rinse(twice/day),
Do not apply any hot compresses over the swelling
you can get a x-ray done under the guidance of dental surgeon

i think your dentist has performed apicetomy to remove the periapical infection.
the hole that you were experiencing due to bone loss. by now it would have got filled, after bone formation there .
since you are also feeling pain in that area, that means infection still persist.
for this i would suggest you to revisit your dentist with old xray.
also get a new xray done this will helps you to understand the periapical pathology.
for now you can take a course of antibiotic and analgesic.
meanwhile do warm saline rinses.

Take lukewarm saline gargles, maintain a good oral hygiene.
Use antiseptic mouthwash gargles twice daily to prevent infection and promote healing.

it may be a normal thing for about a week following your endodontic surgery,if it still persists there still may be a problem. If the problem continues do get back, I am not sure what was the exact surgery u went through. u may mail me the details and x ray if the problem persists

I went through your history & think that you were suffering from abscessed tooth & have gone through apicectomy & that's the surgery in which abscess is removed if larger in size.Healing requires time.
You should warm saline rinses at least twice a day for proper healing & go for regular check-up to your dentist.
