Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Had Stress Fracture. Increased Bone Intensity. Taking Forteo. What Can Be Done?
I have just finished taking Forteo for 1 year and the bone density is only a 4% increase. My doctor wants me to take Prolia. I am looking at the side effects and very nervous about taking it. I had a stress fracture out of no where last year and my foot still has some swelling. Thought the Forteo would be more helpful. Prolia is my only option now because I can't take anything orally. What are your thoughts fo me taking Prolia?
Hello, Prolia is a trade name for drug Denosumab. It is a human monoclonal antibody and appears to be approved by FDA authorities. The only contraindication where the patient must not be given this medicine is in hypocalcemia (decreased calcium levels) in my knowledge. Also please take this medicine cautiously if you have got teeth extraction or jaw surgery.
Hope this helps.
