Had Temporary Crown Placed. Pain In Temple. Done Root Canal Treatment. Any Thoughts?

Had a temp crown placed, pain in right temple has been excrusiating so I went back twice and they reset my bite by adjusting/grinding crown. Still no help so went to a specialist in endodontics and his final test was to numb the nerve area of the temp crown tooth and my headache went away!! With this info he performed a root canal treatment. Procedure went fine but when I got home and the numbness wore off my headache came back immediately??? Any thought on why this did not fix my issue? Headache pain is terrible!

Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

A root canal treated teeth is painless as there are no nerves left in the tooth to cause pain.so please revisit your dentist and get the cause well diagnosed.

usually the pain occurs due to unexplored canal,or reinfected canal.
sometimes occlusion correction is not proper and should be rechecked for proper closure of jaws.

Many a times the adjacent tooth is infected and poses similar problems.
Therfore revisit your dentist for proper evaluation first, then comes the treatment modality ,later.

Hope it helps.

Thanks.

Take care.

Hi
Welcome to HCM
As you described having pain after root canal treatment can be due to improper root canal treatment or some unexplored canal.
You need to get x-ray done of that tooth & check if its properly obturated.
Pain can also be due to high point in that crown. So your occlusion checked.
Also go for complete dental check-up to know about other teeth.
Consult your dentist for further treatment.

Take Care

Hello & welcome,

Pain persisting even after proper Root Canal Treatment might be due to re-infection or High point on the temporary crown which puts extra pressure on the tooth upon chewing.

First of all your tooth must be dis-occluded ( grinded below the occlusal level of other teeth ) to avoid it's contact with the opposite tooth.

For this, you need to visit your dentist. Even IOPA X-ray can be taken to check proper peri apical seal formed after roort canal treatment.

Through x ray, any remaining peri apical infection can also be ruled out which can be treated by re RCT.

Take care.

Hello,

Thanks for posting your query.

Headache post-rct usually lasts for 3-4 days.

Take complete course of analgesics-antibiotics prescribed by your dentist.

Avoid anxiety and take complete rest.

Maintain oral hygiene well.

Also get your TMJ examined and check for dislocation/tenderness.

Take care.
