Had Tooth Extracted, Small, Hard White Bump Formed Near Extraction Site, Upper Wisdom Tooth Hits The Site Due To The Swelling. Cure?
A few weeks ago I had a tooth extracted. Since then, there has been a small, hard white bump that has formed near the extraction site. There has been some irritation, since my upper wisdom tooth will occasionally hit the site due to the swelling and I have been chewing on that side more often than I should have. Are these two related?
Trauma and irritation on the side probably had caused accumulation of healing tissues and cells in the area resulting in formation of cyst or little beningn fibroma .
The area is difficult to clean so it often invites bacterial infection leading to redness , inflammation , swelling of adjacent tissues.
Take care that it does not get infected.
Maintain a good oral hygiene.
take saline water gargles .
Use chlorhexidine mouthwash gargles twice daily.
It is wise to consult to an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and get a checkup done.
The swelling and white bump is the result of granulation tissue formation and thereby wound healing occurs.
Since your wisdom tooth has supra-erupted as the tooth in its opposite quadrant is missing, the area has to be replaced with the artificial tooth once the socket has completely healed.
Frequent warm saline gargle and betadine rinse may be helpful to enhance wound healing.
Rinse mouth after every meals to prevent plaque accumulation.
Antibiotics complete course has to be taken.
hope this helps.
After extraction it usually takes 7 days for complete healing of the extraction socket . Formation of white bump in the extraction site indicates ulceration or tissue irritation which may be caused by physical trauma to the area by opposing wisdom tooth.
white hard bump can be a gingival overgrowth seen during healing process which subsides with time or it may be caused by trauma from the occluding cusps of the opposing tooth.
i would suggest you to visit a dentist and get selective grinding done for upper wisdom tooth which removes the sharp cuspal edges and reduces the chance of trauma to the lower gum line .
you can apply antiseptic oral ointment topically over the area which initiates fast healing.
i hope this helps ,
take care.
