Had Turp Operation. Had Catherer, Pubic Catherer Put. Pub Catherer Fell Off. Advised To Pull Out This Catherer Due To Infections. Cannot Walk Now. Wrong In Surgery, Repair?

Hi Dr. I have a question for you , my husband had a turp operation. That was in june 5, 13 and still can urinated the right way. He had a catherer and a pubic catherer put at the time of his operation and the pub catherer fell off. Now other dr. at the hospital decided that to pull out this catherer because he thinks it's promoting infections. since the operation my husband can not walk, he had some trouble before, but now he doesn' t walk at all. what was done wrong with this surgery?
What can we do to repair this problem?

Urologist 's  Response
Hello
Thanks for your query.Based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your husband has undergone surgery of TURP for enlarged prostate and the Urologist has put Supra-pubic catheter along with urethral catheter .

As supra pubic catheter has come out accidentally and his bladder is being drained by per urethral catheter since June .

Long term Per Urethral catheter always involves the risk of infection and stricture formation but surgeon has no option but to keep it as he is unable to walk and pass urine
.
You can have a trial of removing the urethral catheter and see if he is able to pass urine per urethra or not.
If he is unable to pass urine he may need to be put on supra-pubic catheter again .

Please consult operating surgeon and ask him to find out the reason for his weakness and urinary problem for such a long period.
