Had Two Periods In A Month, Keeping A Check On Cycle. Want To Conceive. Suggestion?
Hi I am 40 years old and last year had 2 periods within a month but since then no trouble untill recently, in the last 6 weeks I have had 3 periods the last ov which started today. I am very concerned I have spoken to gp and been told that this sometimes happens and should just keep check on my cycle and sent me away. I have not had children and would like to concieve. Been with my partner for 8yrs but no joy yet. Can you please help. Thanks Judith
Hello Thanks for your query. With 8 years of trying to conceive and at the age of 40, please fix up an appointment at the earliest with an infertility specialist. You should definitely be concerned. Firstly, have basic hormonal tests and tests to assess your ovarian reserve, that is, the capacity of the ovaries to form mature follicles, which is age dependent, and declines rapidly after the late thirties. Then have a pelvic ultrasound , and follicular monitoring to check ovulation. have your husband's semen analysis done. If all is normal, check patency of your fallopian tubes with a laparoscopy.
