Had Unprotected Sex. Was On Amoxicillin. Could This Have Prevented Any Infection?

I foolishly had unprotected sex while traveling in Oman with a young professional woman who part-times as an escort.
I was taking amoxycillin at the time for a dental absess. May I have lucked out and had some level of protection due to this drug having been in my system for some days, and I continued for another day until all was taken?

Hello,
thanks for using health care amgic

Amoxicilin is an antibiotic which is effective against some bacteria but not all sexually transmitted bacteria. However, the dangers of unprotected intercourse are far beyond just bacterial sexually transmitted infections.

Viral infections are the most dreadful and generally do not have a cure. They include viral hepatitis, herpes, HIV etc. These infections generally are chronic and have life long damaging effects on the body.

In addition to the amoxicillin, you could add doxicycline tablet which your doctor can priscribed for prophylaxis against intracellular germs such as chlamydia or or wait for a while and do an STD workup.

For the viral infections, you will have to wait for a month or so, time for which sero-conversion should occur in case you have picked up any virus to do various tests.
