Had Unprotected Sex, Oral Sex. Scared Of Getting HIV. No Visible Symptoms. Will RNA Test Help To Find It Earlier?

Hi, I had unprotected vaginal sex with a bar girl in Bangkok afew days ago. I was very drunk and because she didn't insist on wearing a condom I stupidly carried on without one. We had penetrative unprotected sex several times with me coming inside her twice. We also performed oral sex on each other with me coming in her mouth once. What are my chances of contracting HIV. I have since read about HIV Thailand, especially in the sex industry being comparatively high to the West so guess this must increase my chances. I want to get tested ASAP so I can put my mind at ease but I hear I must wait 4 weeks from possible exposure until I can get accurate results. I can't wait that long! I'm going through hell with worry. I have also heard about a RNA test that can detect infection in 9 to 14 days. Is this true and how accurate is it. I plan to get both done ASAP to give me any peace of mind though I think will have to wait 3 months for a second to be entirely sure. They bare offering both of these tests at the Red Cross Clinic in Bangkok which sounds reputable from what I have read. I have not had any symptoms, though I did feel a little unwell and had sweats today but then it is very hot in Thailand and I have been drinking a lot recently. Should I axpect any symptoms if I had contracted anything?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.

If your sexual partner's HIV status is positive then your risk for HIV increases, otherwise you are unlikely to be infected.

To have the routine HIV test to detect Antibodies against HIV, you have to wait for 8-12 weeks after the high risk activity.
P24 antigen test and HIV DNA PCR test are become reactive as early as 7 days on words, but more conclusive after 3-4 weeks.
You can have the PCR test now to find that you are nit infected but has to be repeated once again after 4 weeks to confirm the same.
