Had Unprotected Sex With Two Partner. HPT Positive. How To Know The Paternity Of The Child?

Hi, I had unprotected sex with my partner on the 20th of June. I then made the silly mistake of having unprotected sex with my friend on the 22nd of June, then again with my partner on the 24th of June. I took the morning after pill on the 25th of June. My periods work like clockwork and I was due for my next one yesterday, the 8th of July. When it didn't come, I took a home pregnancy test and it came up positive. I went straight to a doctor and gave them the date of my last period, which was the 10th of June, which they then used to calculate an estimated due date - March 17th, 2014. Is it possible that the pill didn't work and could have fallen pregnant to my friend? Or would it be most likely that I fell pregnant BEFORE having sex with my friend? Please help!

Hello,

First of all, you need to undergo one TVS scan to estimate current gestational age. It gives a rough idea to estimate the paternity by calculation.

The best and superior method is DNA testing which gives the 100% accurate result on paternity.

Good luck.

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.

Consult your doctor for further Since the dates you had with partner and friend differ by 2 days it is very difficult to predict about the paternity. You have taken morning after pill on 25th management. This will disrupt or delay ovulation or fertilization, so we can possibly rule out about 24th but cant rule out for 20th and 22nd. There is always chances of varying in ovulation date. You can know about paternity correctly by blood grouping and genetic cromosomal maping. Hope I answered your question. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries.
Wish you good health. Take care.

Hi,
The urine preg test may be false +ve Specially in contaminated or infected urine PLease exclude that by blood HCG test. The periods may get let/irregular after morning after pill also
If your periods are regular 28 days cycle, the ovulation day should be on14 th day i.e. 24th June, when you had sex with your partner. But the Morning after pill taken on 25th did not work -meaning you had already conceived before 24th.Now it can be either 10th or 12th day of periods . Its not possible to decide the father . it can be after the birth of baby by genetic evaluation.
Still, as you have consumed Morning after pill (i.e. a high dose hormones) after the coception, you are adviced to go for MTP even if the preg test is +ve
Thank you.

OBGYN Dr. Timothy Raichle's  Response
Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

Based on a due date of 3/17, and assuming regular cycles, you conceived on 6/24 (give or take a few days). This means that conception occurred with intercourse on either 6/22 or 6/25. It is currently impossible to tell who the father is of this pregnancy. It would be extremely helpful if you had an ultrasound. This would more accurately tell you the due date, and thus conception. Once you have this information, please direct a question to me through the Specialist query and I would be happy to help you further.

I hope that this helps and good luck!
