Hair Fall, Shingles Outbreak On Face, Eyes, Scar Tissue On Scalp. Permanent Hair Loss?
I am losing great amounts of hair all day. 3 mos ago, I had a very aggressive shingles outbreak on scalp ,face and eye. So far, eyesight seems OK, although we had complications. Forehead and temple hurts! ... and is numb. Lots of hideous scars. I assume the hair loss is permanent from massive scar tissue on scalp. Any help on my hair loss?
Hi, Thanks for writing to us. The pain and numbness in your forehead and temple area is a sequelae of herpes zoster and is known as post herpetic neuralgia. The same to some extent can be controlled with drugs like gabapentin, pregablin, amytriptalline and non steroidal antiinflammatory analgesics like brufen etc. Herpes zoster does not heal with scars, however if a superceding bacterial infection develops or if the disease was too severe then scarring is a posibility. Now if your scalp lesions healed with scarring then its a possibility that the hair follicles in those areas are completely destroyed. if thats the case. hair growth is unlikely. Hope that answered your query. Take care
