Has Alzheimer S. Fell And Broke Leg. On Thyroxine And BP Medicine. What To Do?

My 91 year old mother has Alzheimer's she recently lived with us fell and broke her leg and now is in rehab the Alzheimer's has escalated she still knows who we are and others are she still knows that she's not at home she cries and begs to come home but she wants to go to the home she had before she moved in with us. My father died five years ago and that's all she talks about is wanting to be with him she can't understand why God has not taken her yet she begs to die but she doesn't want to commit suicide knowing she won't get into heaven if she does. I've had some friends in a similar situation but their parents Were not as old as my mother stating that I should talk to the doctors about removing her from her medication so that her body will give up for lack of a better term I don't know what to do I don't want to lose my mother but seeing her like this hurts so bad is it It wrong to remove her from her blood pressure medication level thyroxine because that's the only medicine she's on. But then I feel like I'm pulling a Trigger I don't I don't know what to do

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query.
It is unfortunate that your mother has Alzheimer's disease and there is no cure for it.
Based on what you are describing, she seems to be depressed and is expressing suicidal ideas. She would benefit from psychiatric consultation and counseling. Antidepressants like escitalopram would also help.
In my opinion, helping her die or passive euthanasia is not an option in this case, so, we should not stop her medications for BP or thyroid problems.
I hope it helps.

Please get back if you require any additional information.

Best wishes,
