Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

Different medications have different strengths and dosing. Some medications start at single digit dosing whereas in another medication the lowest dose is 100mg. It does not mean that the medication is stronger just that the medication has been formulated differently.
For example one blood pressure medication has the lower dose of 2.5mg , another a lower dose of 80 mg and another the lower dose is 160mg but each of these doses may cause the same reduction in blood pressure.

The 40 mg tablet that you were given is not necessary stronger than the medication that you were using before.
You may want to discuss any concerns that you have with your doctor.

I hope this helps

Hello,

Thanks for posting on HCM,

Well it would have been more helpful if you had mentioned exactly which medicines he was prescribing. The problem is not the dosage size i.e 5mg or 2.5mg or 40mg. The problem is the strength and side effects that each medicine carries. The 5mg could be stronger, has more side effects, less available and more expensive than the 40mg which could have less side effects, cheaper and more available. By simple, your doctor could mean all of what I have just mentioned. He could choose a drug which he feels more comfortable prescribing for long term for you especially as you are having hypertension and it usually requires long term treatment to control it.

Hope this helps
