Has Botox Been Approved For Back Spasms?

I have a bad lumbar due to arthritis.. I know nothing can be done but I get back spasms on my right side. Would Botox injections help? They occur about 15 min after standing and are very painful. I am 65 years old and was using Valium but now they don t want me t because of how long Valium lasts in the body. I also take 3 klonopin at night. Has Botox been approved for back spasms?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Dear patient
Botox has not been approved for back spasms. But it has basic action of blocking neuromuscular junction and since back muscles are skeletal muscle Botox injection might help. But Botox injection has temporary effect and has to be taken every 3 months. Also they are very costly. So consult back pain specialist nearby you and weigh the risk and benefits of Botox injection. But onother options available is facetal blocks and denervation. For this consult pain clinic nearby you and get examined.
