Has Dysentery, Loose Stools With Blood. Why Is Infant In Pain?

Hello Dr.

My son has Dysentery since yesterday evening and he is 5 months old. We took him to hospital yesterday and gave medicines. today morning also he started loose motion with blood and again we went to hospital and updated Dr about the same. He gave us few more medicines and still he is not recovered. No fever so far..his body was heat for sometime in the evening and he looks normal but he is crying when he is pushing for motion.

Please advice. I am really scared.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Presence of blood and mucus in stool indicates dysentery. This may be associated with pain while passing stool.
Treatment of this is with antibiotics prescribed by your doctor.
Probiotics and zinc help in treatment.
A breast fed baby is unlikely to have such problems. So it is ideal to breast feed babies.
