Has Been In An Induced Coma After Iscemic Stroke, Doctors Raised His Blood Pressure Up To 180. Why Do They Do It?

Hi, my farther has been in an induced coma after iscemic stroke for 7 days. Doctors do not tell anything about any progress. But today they raised his blood pressure up to 180. Why do they do it? His temperature started to rise as well up to 99.5. Is it a good sign. Does it mean that they started to prepare him from getting out from induced coma?

Dear patient,

Thanks for your health concerns. Recent advances in Neurology have identified that permisive hypertension, meaning allowing the blood pressure to be between 160-180 after an ischemic stroke might improve chances of recovery; we used to try do control blood pressure aggressively and patients did not do better.
In terms of the temperature change, it could be circumstantial, but patients after stroke can have disregulation of temperature, heart rate, blood pressure and other functions that are brain dependant but automatic

Hope this is useful, wish you and your father the best,
