Hashimoto S Hypothyroidism, Out Of Breath, Occasional Heart Palp. On Synthroid. Advise?

Hi-
I am 38 yrs old female, with Hashimoto's hypothroidism. This weekend I went to ATL and had to walk up hills and stairs, was got of breath big time. Sometimes I do have heart palp with Synthyroid. I am out of shape, but working on that. Is the out of breath part is because I'm out of shape or do I need to make an appt. with my doctor?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
After going through your history, I presume your hypothyroidism is well controlled but if you get palpitations then over dose of thyroxine must be checked.
Your shortness of breath could be partly due to overweight and if you are not used to exercise, but we must not ignore the symptoms and you must consult your Physician to rule out other causes.
The common causes could be related to lungs and Heart and even low Hemoglobin level (Anemia) after physical examination investigations like, Complete blood count, blood sugar level and Liver and Kidney functions, X ray chest, Lungs function test, EKG and if required 2 D Echocardiography and stress test may be required to detect the exact cause of shortness of breath.
If any cause is detected then can be treated accordingly and if everything is fine than losing weight and gradually increasing exercise capacity should help you.
Hope this helps you to take proper action regarding your health.
Take care.
Good Luck.
