Have PCOD, Irregular Periods. Spotting After Taking Duphaston. Negative Pregnancy Test. Reason?

- I have PCOD and do not get my periods regularly ever. My husband and I are trying to have a baby. I am on Duphaston 10 mg, which I take from the 20th day of my periods to get my next periods. This time, my periods were due on the 10, but, I observed spotting from 5th onwards which continued till 12th. I did a pregnancy check at home on 6th, but, found that to be negative. What could be the reason for spotting? Is it normal? Is there any action I should be taking in this regard? Is it possible that I could be pregnant and the urine test is not showing it? Doctor prescribe me take a meprate 10mg for three days I am already taken this is 4 th day I have till spotting what is the reson?

Hello ma'am.

The spotting could be a side effect of the medication you are on, but it could also be an implantation bleed that takes place after conception has successfully occurred. In this regard I would advise a pregnancy test to be conducted at least 2 weeks after tje last day of sexual contact using an early morning urine sample. This would confirm/rule out the suspicion of pregnancy. But it would still be best to visit a doctor for a blood/serum pregnancy test.

This is the first step you need to take in this regard and yes, pregnancy tests can at times not detect a pregnancy even when the woman is 3-4 months into pregnancy.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
