Have Abdominal Cramps, Variable Bowel Movements, Flatulence, Fatigue. What To Expect?

I have what I would describe as tiny cramps in my lower right abdomen , several months, does not go away. My bowel habits change from very loose stool to somewhat constipated to very loose stool throughout the day. I have involuntary flatulence and am extremely fatigued. I have an appointment with the gastro specialist, what should I expect?

Hi,
From history it seems that you might be having some chronic gastro-intestinal infection causing this symptoms.
Go for Ofloxacilin, tinidazole combination medicine course for 3 days and you will be alright.
Take plenty of water.
Avoid constipation.
Ok and take care.

General Surgeon Dr. M Y Shareef's  Response
Hi! How are your dietary habits ? Do you eat frequently from outside ? If so, you may be having some kind of intestinal infection most commonly being amebiasis which causes symptoms like yours. You should go for a routine stool test for ova and cyst which can document ameba in it, and a course of anti amebic drugs will solve the problem.
If the above is excluded, or does not work, then your gastroenterologist may go for an endoscopic examination of your large gut to rule out any chronic inflammatory diseases of the intestine, and a biopsy may be taken from the intestinal wall to diagnose the condition. Accordingly the treatment will depend on the report of investigations.
Till that , you can improve your symptoms by avoiding eating from outside where some of the components of the food may be causing allergic reactions to your intestines causing these symptoms. You should go for a high roughage diet with enough liquids, and go for regular exercise which may relieve your symptoms.
Thanks and good luck.
