Have Aggressive Ottosclerosis. Suggested Stepdoectomy. Is This Advisable?
Hi Doctor. My name is Denise. I'm 37 & from Ireland. I was diagnosed with Agressive Ottosclerosis in April 2012. I had a repeat if the extensive tests done again recently & was told my hearing has dramatically declined to 60db. I've to undergo a Stepdoectomy in January next year. Is this advisable in your opinion? Am I going to go profoundly deaf at the rate I going?

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.
Otosclerosis is hereditary condition with variable penetrance. It basically causes fixation of foot plate of stapes to oval window. affecting transmission of sound vibrations into inner ear. In early stages hearing aids can be used. Stapedectomy is definitive line of treatment. you can get procedure done, it helps to improve your hearing. Consult your doctor for examination and management. Hope I answered your question. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries. Wish you good health. Take care.
