Have Back Pain And Spasms While Jumping Or Running. Reason?

Hi, I ve recently been having pain in my upper back that happens when I jump or run and it also spasms occasionally throughout the day. When it s acting up it hurts to get a full breath. It started right after I went to the gymnastics gym last week and jumped on the trampoline. I was previously in gymnastics for 9 years and have been off from it for about 4 years now. I never had this problem before. Are my muscles just not as developed as they were before?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query

From description , it seems you might developed muscular or ligamentous strain over back.

I would suggest getting this evaluated by an orthopedician for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. You may get the MRI of the area affected under his/her guidance.

Meanwhile following measures will help with the pain
• Lie on a hard bed.
• Anti -inflammatory drugs like Tablet Motrin 1 tablet as and when required
• Avoid forward bending.
• Avoid strenuous activity & lifting heavy weights.
• Apply diclofenac gel on the affected area. Warm compresses will also help.

I hope this information has been both informative and helpful

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

Sudden strain after a long gap - might have ruptured a few fibres of the muscle or ligament
Take rest and pain relievers for a few days...
Resume at the lowest level and step up slowly over a month to strenuous levels.

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
