Have Bumps All Over The Arm. Tried Exfoliation But No Use. What Is The Permanent Cure For This?

For over 10 years I've had bumps all over my arms. They are all over my upper and forearms. I've never picked at them. Sometimes they are red and noticeable, other times they aren't that noticeable. They seem to go away in winter, but of course they are still there. When I do pick at them, I pop them and puss comes out. Then they turn red and big. I've tried exfoliating and it didn't work!

Dermatologist Dr. Sanjay Kumar Kanodia's  Response
Hi Bravre,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to HCM.

After reading your query thoroughly it appears to be Keratosis pilaris also known as follicular keratosis which is a common condition affecting hair root and is clinically seen as red and rough bumps on the skin of back and outer sides of the arm and even forearms.

This is caused by the blockage of the pores by the hard plug known as keratin. They are more often seen in winters and surprisingly in you are less in the same season.

It can be very well treated by use of keratolytic agents such as salicylic acid and topical retinoids under medical advice. Moisturization also helps in reducing them well.

There might be a second possibility of simple acne but these do not appear on forearm.

Hope this information will help you.

All the best.
