Have Calloused Knuckles And Toes. Itching, Feeling Hot. Skin Sensitivity To Food?

My boyfriend has been getting calloused knuckles and toes for years and has never known why. In colder weather, especially in the winter months, his knuckles (mainly) tend to get heated and itchy; sometimes this itchiness is also in his toes. The skin is thick and built up while the rest of the hands and feet are smooth and healthy looking. To help with the itchiness, he uses a Gold Bond mentholated lotion. He says he doesn t have any food allergies but has never been officially tested. Could the cause be some type of skin sensitivity to food or something else? Could it be some manifestation of psoriasis? What other things might cause this skin condition? It doesn t seem normal, though he sees it as normal now because he has lived with it for so long?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Skin condition of your boy friend needs a close evaluation by a dermatologist.
It is not like psoriasis or any aggressive type of skin disease, so no need to worry more. Your skin condition might be Acrokeratosis verruciformis of Hoff, Acanthosis nigricans, callus or some other similar skin disease. It is not related to any food.
It needs some keratolyic agent like Lacticare lotion to apply.
with regards.
