Hi,
Thank you for your query.
1. You have developed a condition known as
Rhinitis Medicamentosa due to regular use of decongestant nasal drops. These drops ideally act for 10-12 hours, but increasing doses are required (such as 5 times a day) to achieve the same effect (relieving the
nasal obstruction).
2. Yes, your ENT doctor has put you on the correct trial of medication. Try to decrease or stop your nasal decongestant drops at the same time, if you can. Add regular plain steam inhalation.
3. If this medical therapy fails, get a plain CT PNS (Para Nasal
Sinuses) done with 1mm coronal, axial and sagittal cuts, pre and post decongestion with nasal decongestant drops (
Otrivin or
Nasivion). Use adequate drops and wait 15 minutes between scans. Compare the scans.
4. Better than laser turbinoplasty will be radio-frequency turbinate reduction (Sutter / Ellman) or coblation assisted channeling (Arthrocare).
5. You may follow up with the scan images directly at bit.ly/Dr-Sumit-Bhatti
Regards.
